Morningsun Herb Farms is a wholesale supplier of Herb and Perennial Plants to many retail nurseries in the Central California and Western States.
It’s been 15 years since Rose Lovell took her passion for gardening and turned it into a business that she runs with her husband. Located on Pleasants Valley Road in Vacaville, CA, which is the same property her family’s walnut orchard sat on when she was a kid. The farm today sits on 3 acres and includes a demonstration garden, greenhouses, lavish fields and a retail growing area.
Lavender is a specialty on the farm. It has 30 kinds and along with Salvia which are the best sellers because they are drought tolerant and can be grown year round.
Rose says people should grow multi-functional gardens so that the plant can be used for a number of things such as cosmetics and hummingbirds. Another thing is the items grown should be appropriate to the area and not necessarily native to the area. For example she grows the unusual culinary herb lemon verbena, which is a new world plant that is native to Peru.
Rose continues to expand what her farm offers and that keeps her customers coming back for more year after year. In 2009, there will be 50 new species of Salvia.
