Slide Mountain Ranch, in the town of Tuolumne (just outside of Yosemite), is a western-styled guest ranch with all the cowboy’ish things you’d expect: arenas, pine studded trails, barns, bunkhouse and horses. It’s the horses, however, which set this ranch apart from the usual guest ranch experience.
We’ll meet Ike and Cheri Bunney, owners of Slide Mountain Ranch, who happen to be world champion cutting horse breeders and trainers.
This week’s Ag Traveler will feature reporter Gary Gelfand, a certified tender footed “city-boy”, as he learns how to gracefully stay aboard a cutting horse under the tutelage of the Slide Mountain Ranch owners. Then we’ll head to Sonora to see a man named Doc about a side of beef. Doc’s Texas BBQ & Burgers is where Gary will get his fill of authentic western-styled grub and see what makes Doc’s a favorite with the locals.
