911 - The Ag Traveler: Hitting the Farm Trail
El Dorado County is
at the heart of California's Gold Rush country – often called the
"Mother Lode." The county's modern history has grown
beyond the Gold Rush era to a thriving agri-tourism economy with
hundreds of apple orchards and its own wine appellation as the center
piece. To help visitors find their way, the food producers have
developed an “El Dorado County Farm Trails” guide to help visitors
traverse what experts say is one of the state’s premiere farm trails.
California Heartland’s Gary Gelfand visits the
Fudge Factory Farm in Placerville. The factory is also a farm; most
of the ingredients that go into their tasty treats are grown right
there. Owner, Jean Reinders will show us what she grows and how
she turns nature’s goodies into something even sweeter.
We’ll also go to Patrick's Berry Farm in Camino.
At a time when they're bursting with berries, cherry tomatoes and
peppers! You can pick them all and we’ll learn how from the experts
at the farm.
Last stop, Boeger Winery. Gary gets a glimpse
of how Boeger's versatility and quality in red, white and dessert
wines makes wine tasting a wonderful experience.
