One Tank Getaways

The high cost of gasoline has been all over the news this summer, but that hasn’t prevented families from enjoying their "annual" vacations across the state.

Travel experts aren’t surprised by the record number of motorists on the highways.

They say the price of fuel doesn’t get in the way of a summer vacation.

But if you still haven’t taken that summer vacation and the price of gas has you concerned about going too far, we have a few ideas for some "one tank getaways."

If you live in San Diego, just forty-five minutes away, you can pick up the "Fallbrook Farm Tour Map." The map outlines seventeen agricultural points of interest…farms, nurseries and more. The effort is designed to promote area businesses…and the Chamber of Commerce is excited by the potential for attracting visitors to local farms.

One hundred miles away from Los Angeles is a "weekday" adventure to the Santa Barbara Farmers’ Market. Tuesdays, between 4:00 and 7:30 p.m., State Street is closed down and up to sixty vendors sell farm-fresh items in the central two-block area. The hours change during the winter months, so be sure to check our website for more information.

And just an hour from Fresno…you can spend an afternoon looking at the Exeter Murals. They’re 14 large paintings that were part of a beautification project to brighten up the downtown area…following a fire, a few years ago, that destroyed a building.

Finally, between San Francisco and Sacramento, in Sonoma, you can take a tour of the Viansa Winery. Sample some fine California and Italian wines in an atmosphere that’s a taste of Italy!
