California Heartland recently visited a small business in Fullerton that is making bats for Major League Baseball. Glomar Enterprises provides bats for such big league stars as Jose Canseco, Tim Salmon and Ryan Klesko.

Glomar is the brainchild of Juan Faxas, a Cuban immigrant who was an engineer by profession. He turned his dual hobbies, woodworking and baseball, into a growing business in 1991.

Glomar bats are produced from the finest, slow grown white ash, grown in the Northeast. Each bat is as individual as the player who swings it. A bat supplier like Glomar must be licensed by Major League Baseball, meeting certain restrictions on size and diameter.
