Peaches

Where do most of California's cling peach growers come from? It's not California, in fact, it's not even the United States. They come from the state of Punjab in India. There are 10,000 East Indians of the Sikh religion living in Yuba and Sutter Counties in Northern California. That's where 55% of the state's cling peaches are produced. These Sikh farmers were drawn to the area years ago because of the similarity of the geography and climate to their homeland. Many of them come from families that farmed in India. So what's their secret to success in the world of agriculture? They say it's a serious work ethic they learned in Punjab years ago. Now, the hard work has paid off. Cling peaches have a value of just over $100 million a year and that increases to $500 million after processing.
