Hmong Farmers (recipe) We've discovered over the life of our program that cultures from around the world have made contributions to the success of the heartland. Our program is going to look at the diversity of people and products that makeup California's heartland. The objects of our first report had their beginnings in Southeast Asia. For the Hmong farmers, the road to the heartland has not been an easy one. Pat McConahay has the story. |

Indian Peaches Peaches are grown in 36 states, but the heartland produces over 90% of all U. S. production. And, you may be surprised to find out who has been an important force behind this valuable industry. The heartland owes a big debt to India and the peach growers who now farm in California. |

Allensworth When historians document the history of the heartland there is a tiny point of interest in Tulare County that merits special attention. Allensworth was a busy agricultural hub in the Central Valley in the early 1900s. Today it is a historic site preserved to honor contributions made by African American settlers in the heartland. |

Mas' Peach (recipe) Earlier in our program we reported on the East Indian farmers who are playing a large role in bringing a successful peach crop from the northern counties of the heartland. Another peach grower, this one in Fresno County, brings another culture into the mix with great success. Farmer and writer Mas Masumoto is poetic about his peaches. |
