PLACES TO GO SPECIAL

Farm Stay I
The old adage "all work and no play"…yada, yada, yada…we take very seriously in the heartland. This program is about spots we've found that encourage relaxation and entertainment. And it all comes with a heartland flavor. Our Pat McConahay has made a point of searching out some interesting farm getaways and her first report comes from the colorful Sonoma County Coast.

Knott's Berry Farm
If you really want to make a real statement about the wealth of agriculture in the heartland and have a great time doing it we've got just the location for you. A family farm in Southern California has grown from a small 20-acre berry growing spread into one of the most visited entertainment centers in the country. You probably know it as Knott's Berry Farm.

Farm Stay II
As you can tell, we have a hard time keeping Pat McConahay in the office. Her first feature on farm getaways received such great response from viewers she immediately headed off in search of more spots. We caught up with her in Humboldt County on a farming operation that draws you into some interesting history and a relaxing, friendly atmosphere.

Ardenwood Farm
For a real history lesson with turn of the century characters and a chance to participate in what it was like to farm "back in the old days," there's a well preserved parcel of agricultural property near San Francisco that can deliver that and much more. Plan a trip to Ardenwood Farm.

MALT Hike
In her search for farm stays Pat McConahay ran across a program that can give urbanites a taste of farm life. It's an excursion made possible by some environmentally minded farmers in Marin County.

Heidrick Ag Museum
There's a great day trip site that will delight the whole family and it's appropriately located in the heart of some of the richest agricultural country in the state, in Woodland, north of Sacramento. Just off Interstate 5 is the Heidrick Ag History Center, which houses a collection of agricultural artifacts that will enthrall the whole family.

Farm Stay III
For our final report we travel to a Marin County farm where Pat McConahay decided to check in for a stay that features a dairy, a winery and a bed and breakfast. That's milk for breakfast, champagne for lunch and wine for dinner.
