Our first visit to a California Bed & Breakfast location that also functions as a farm was so popular, we decided to try it again. This time we visited Chalk Mountain Ranch in Bridgeville, California. Located on top of a 3,000-foot mountain on Highway 36, Chalk Mountain Ranch is one of the oldest and steepest ranches in Eastern Humboldt County.
The Barnwell family decided to open up their historic property to the public to share the rich history and the important work they do. While Les Barnwell farms trees, his mother Gloria tends to their 200 head of cattle on their 9,000-acre ranch. The cattle ranch began in 1884 and the logging operation started more than 50 years later.
Janet Barnwell is the creative force behind turning several rustic cabins on the property into charming accommodations. She also prepares the home cooked meals. The Barnwell family specializes in good, old-fashioned hospitality.
So if you want relaxation with a farming flair, sprinkled with some family history, Chalk Mountain Ranch could be the perfect getaway.
