Want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city? California Heartland has the perfect day trip in mind for you. Visit the Ardenwood Regional Preserve in Fremont.
This turn of the century farm hosts classrooms of kids eager for a real "hands-on" experience of early California life. The 200-acre farm shows how farming was done before high tech equipment edged out manual labor.
Ardenwood, once owned by wealthy farmer George Patterson, was named after a forested area described in William Shakespeare's As You Like It. The Patterson home at Ardenwood is a Victorian farmhouse stocked with period furniture dating back more than 100 years.
On site you'll find a blacksmith station, old farm tools and equipment, farm animals and hay wagon and horse-drawn railcar rides.
