San Francisco Flower Market
A major part of our agricultural treasure is California's flower production. The flower industry is a major contributor to the agricultural economy in the heartland. Do you ever wonder where all the flowers come from? Well, that's what this program is all about. If you live in Northern California they probably come from the San Francisco Flower Mart which claims to house the largest selection of floral products under one roof.

Orchids
Next we travel to the Central Coast where one of the most prolific of flowers is grown. There are more than 30,000 known species of this beauty worldwide and that of course includes Santa Barbara. That is where we find Allison Thompson who investigates what it takes to harvest an orchid.

Amador Flower Farm
For anyone who loves flowers…(and who doesn't?)…tucked away in the wine country of the Sierra foothills is a farm dedicated to harvesting beauty. Fields of flowers among the grape vines.

Huntington Gardens
Under the category of "look but don't touch," we visit one of the most breathtaking collections of botanical treasures anywhere. What was once a cattle and citrus farm in the early 1900s was transformed into an oasis of beauty. We traveled to the busy Los Angeles basin in search of Huntington Gardens.

Humboldt Flowers
If they can cultivate beauty like the Huntington Gardens in LA, just think what they can do in comparatively rural Humboldt County. Up in that northwestern corner of the heartland is where Pat McConahay discovered Humboldt's version of horticultural beauty.

Did you know that California leads the nation in cut flower production? And were you aware that the heartland produces flowers you can eat? That's right…gastronomical beauties that not only look good…they are also tasty.

Roses
It's logical to assume we grow such beautiful flowers in the heartland because of the abundant sunlight and mild weather…El Nino not withstanding…but a lot can be said for beauty being harvested under the roof. As in "hothouse."
