Long before the Robert Redford film The Horse Whisperer, there was Tom Dorrance. And while Redford has won an Academy Award, Dorrance has his "Oscar" of sorts, too. The man the New York Times called the "Patron Saint of Horses," Dorrance was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
"Ever since I could remember I tried to get along with the horse," said Dorrance. He does more than just get along. To many of his admirers, it seems Dorrance has telepathic communication with the horse. "The better the understanding the person has for what's going on within the horse, the easier it is for the horse to learn to respond to what the person is asking it to do," continued Dorrance.
This gentle man will tell you that everything he's learned about life, he learned from the horse. And Dorrance shares his wisdom in his book, True Unity: Willing Communication Between Horse and Human. The book is already in its 9th printing.
A popular author, a wizard with horses and a well respected human being. Sounds like they need to make a movie of Dorrance's life. Maybe Redford could play the lead.
