Cider
We have all heard of apple cider, but how about "hard cider"? There is a big difference. Hard cider is fermented apple juice; apple juice with an alcohol kick. It was once the most popular drink in Colonial America and today it's making a comeback

Squid
Squid is often called the poor man's abalone. Over the years it's gained quite an acceptance. Pat McConahay traveled to Monterey, one of the state's busiest fishing ports, to see how this unusual looking, but tasty seafood, is caught and prepared.

Canning  (recipe)
It's that time of year when many of us are dipping into our canned fruits for the first time. We wondered if canned fruits are as nutritious as fresh or frozen fruits. According to recent studies they are. Growers are finding new ways to make canned goods more appealing. Allison Thompson visited with one of the heartland's major fruit processors to bring us a report.

Matos Cheese  (recipe)
What it lacks in size, the Joe Matos Cheese Factory of Santa Rosa makes up in quality. Pat McConahay has the story behind the Matos family and their journey from the Azores. Joe Matos brought with him a family cheese recipe unique in the heartland. Pat followed the making of "St. George Cheese" from start to finish.

Genetic Produce
According to the US Department of Agriculture Americans spend 2.5 billion dollars each year on fresh tomatoes. Often the tomatoes we bring home from the market don't meet expectations. What, if magically, you could find the perfect "home grown" tomato in the supermarket any season of the year? Well, the genie is DNA technology and our wishes may only be limited by our imagination. The subject is genetic produce.

Colusa Farm Show
This is the time of year for show and tells at major farm centers throughout the heartland. Farm expos are in full swing with new products to catch the eyes of farmers and ranchers. This week our heartland cameras visit Colusa for one of the biggest shows in the state.

Dairyopoly
Have you ever yearned to own a farm? Well now is your chance. With a roll of the dice you can buy up "Midway Dairy" or "Sunny Brook Dairy" for just $185 dollars! Welcome to "Dairyopoly," the new board game that is catching on throughout the heartland. As you will see on this week's edition of California Heartland, "Dairyopoly" is for kids of all ages, including Pat McConahay.
