Genetic Produce

You have probably heard of the classic cult film Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. In this cheesy, B- movie, tomatoes grow awry and the giant red fruits attack unsuspecting citizens. AARGH!

Well, DNA Plant Technology (DNAP) of Oakland, California is perfecting a new type of "Killer" Tomato. Killer -- as in slang for the best, or top notch. This Company's DNA technology is providing the perfect backyard tomato year-round. They are accomplishing this task by combining traditional cross breeding techniques with gene manipulation.

DNAP's Endless Summer Tomato has a suppressed gene for softening. The new tomatoes are grown carefully in a temperature and humidity controlled vault. Then some of the fruit creations are transferred to rooftop greenhouses. These tomatoes have a shelf life of more than 30 days, compared to the 7-12 days for ordinary varieties.

The Endless Summer Tomato must also pass DNAP Taste Tests. In tasting tomatoes, intensity is the name of the game. Firmness, Juiciness and Sweetness are all good words to describe a tasty tomato.

DNAP is hoping the Endless Summer Tomato has the sweet smell of success at the market!
